I’m Jackie (Jacque) Carroll Rotruck. My husband, Jim, and I are approaching our 34th anniversary in August. We have 2 kids: Wil, who is married and living in Connecticut, and Sarah, who is married and living in Grove City.
Marylin's friend Betty Davis writes,
Marylin was killed about 20 years ago in a traffic accident. The car
she and her husband were in was hit by a city truck on Kentucky Avenue.
It killed Marylin on the spot, but her husband wasn't badly hurt.
It was a shock to all of us when it happened. I kept in contact with
her mother until she died a few years ago. We would talk about Marylin.
It was always the same: all the things we got in to when we were kids.
I miss them both a lot.

In the past 2 years, my life has had some extremely high good times and some extremely low bad times. On December 30, 2000, my wife of 30 years, Betty (Cotton, BDHS class of '63), was diagnosed with liver cancer. Two weeks later, she passed away. I can't describe how devastated I was.
Not long after that, Marilynn came to my church, looking for a new church home and some new friends. Well, I became one of her new friends, and it just kept getting better from there. I didn't know if a "geezer" in his mid-fifties could fall in love again, but it happened to me. Marilynn and I were married March 2, 2002.
Less than two weeks later, life hit another low spot. My 29-year-old daughter, Jean (BDHS class of '90), was killed in an automobile accident. One bright spot was that she had chosen to have her driver's license marked to indicate that she was willing to be an organ donor. Somewhere, there are 4 families who were on the verge of losing a loved one. Those 4 individuals got the heart or liver or kidney that they needed, and they were given a second chance at life.
In May of this year, my son, Jim (BDHS class of '93), became a father, so I joined the ranks of "Grandpas". I think I like that title. I want to make the most of it. I guess I've had several lessons that life has its tragedies, but life goes on. We have some low times, and we don't see the "big picture". God has control of the "big picture" and we will understand it fully some day.
I look forward to many more good times. I plan to retire from General Motors sometime next year, with 37 years of seniority. I would like to hear from any classmates who want to correspond. I still live in the Ben Davis area.
